Why Has Alfonso Basterra, Asunta's Father, Been Transferred to Another Prison?

This woman is of unknown identity, and the prisoner hasn't had the opportunity to meet her in person yet.

Asunta's father has made a decision. Alfonso Basterra requested to be transferred to the Topas Penitentiary Center after allegedly falling in love with a woman from Salamanca.

According to El Mundo, Asunta's father, accused of her murder, reportedly began a romantic relationship with a woman from Salamanca, with whom he maintains a continuous exchange of letters.

This was reportedly the reason Basterra presented to request his transfer from the Teixeiro prison. It should be noted that it was a center he had been wanting to leave for some time due to his social isolation, both with other inmates and the outside world.

Allegedly, according to the mentioned media, Basterra would begin his relationship with the woman through letters. A communication that would have started while Basterra was preparing the novel dedicated to his murdered daughter.

This woman is of unknown identity and with whom the inmate has not yet had the opportunity to meet in person. Apparently, it would be Basterra's first known relationship after his marriage to Rosario Porto, who was convicted of the same crime.

The murder of Asunta, which deeply impacted all of Spain in 2013, occurred when the 12-year-old girl was found lifeless on a forest track in Teo, A Coruña.

After a thorough investigation, it was revealed that her adoptive parents, Alfonso Basterra and Rosario Porto, had sedated her with lorazepam before suffocating her. Both were sentenced to 18 years in prison. In 2020, Rosario Porto committed suicide in the Brieva prison.

Rosario Porto committed suicide in prison after having served seven years in three prisons: A Lama (Pontevedra), Teixeiro (A Coruña), and Brieva. Her death occurred without her ever admitting her involvement. Nor did Alfonso Basterra, in the murder of Asunta, the minor found lifeless on a forest track near a property of Porto.
