Urgent statement in Denmark: Frederik and Mary have already done it, it's official

The kings of Denmark will leave Copenhagen and they've already packed their suitcases

For days, it was suspected that an important announcement was approaching from Amalienborg Palace. Now it's official. The Danish Royal House has confirmed what many had desired: King Frederik and Queen Mary already have a date, destination, and company for their summer getaway.

The statement, released this Friday, states that on July 28 the monarchs will leave the capital to settle in Grasten Castle, in the south of Jutland. This is a place with strong symbolic significance, which every summer becomes the epicenter of the private life of the Danish royal family.

This traditional retreat won't be just for the king and queen. Two figures much loved by Danes will join them: Queen Margrethe, mother of the current monarch, and Princess Benedikte, his aunt. Both will be present during the weeks of rest, sharing with the royals the natural and peaceful surroundings of the castle.

Mary and Frederik, a different year

This year's trip is notably different from the previous one. In 2024, the move took place on July 9, much earlier than this time. That summer was special because it was the first since Frederik and Mary took the throne.

Grasten went all out to welcome them, with a red carpet, flowers, and hundreds of citizens waving flags and applauding the royal couple.

For 2025, a warm welcome is also expected. Mayor Erik Lauritzen will lead an official reception in Grasten's central square. The event will open the season in which the castle once again becomes the summer home of the Glücksburgs. This is the family that has lived there since 1935 thanks to a wedding gift to Frederik IX and Ingrid.

The royals won't be alone. With them will be their four children: Crown Prince Christian, who is 19 years old, Isabella, who is 18, and the twins Vincent and Josephine, who are 14. This will be one of the few occasions of the year when the whole family can gather in a more relaxed setting.

The castle isn't just a private refuge. Its English-style gardens, although closed to the public during the royal stay, are known for allowing sports such as horseback riding, golf, or tennis. The adjoining church does keep its doors open for worshippers, and the daily parade of the Royal Guard to the castle is one of the tourist attractions.

During the weeks they stay in Grasten, an equestrian festival inspired by the Middle Ages will also take place. Three hundred riders and more than a hundred children will participate, joining the colorful spectacle by bicycle.

The Danish monarchy's summer season is already taking shape. With the official announcement of the move to the south of the country, the royal family is preparing for a different few weeks. Tradition, rest, and closeness to the people will set the tone.
