Confirm an Urgent Change in DTT: How It Will Impact Your TV and What You Must Do

The Council of Ministers has approved a new measure that has forced some receivers to adapt

The Government has given the green light to a new plan for Digital Terrestrial Television (DTT). Its objective is to improve the image and sound quality of broadcasts. Additionally, it lays the groundwork for the future bidding of a new state channel.

Starting today, televisions sold in Spain must comply with new standards. They must include DVB-T2 technology and be compatible with Ultra High Definition (UHD). This is established by the royal decree approved by the Council of Ministers.

Televisions with large screens have specific requirements. Those 40 inches or more must include a tuner and decoder for UHD. For smaller ones, the obligation will apply in one year.

Models of 24 inches or more must also incorporate an Internet connection. Additionally, they must be compatible with the HbbTV 2.0.2 system. This will allow access to advanced interactive services.

Steps to Follow with the New Regulations

There is no need to modify antennas or installations in buildings. If DTT in HD was received correctly, no changes are necessary. Only older televisions might need adaptations.

If your television is not compatible with DVB-T2, there are solutions. External decoders can be purchased at affordable prices. Starting from 15 euros, they allow you to continue watching DTT with the new technology.

Channel retuning may be necessary. It is done from the television's settings menu. Many SmartTV models do it automatically without user intervention.

In a future phase, all broadcasts will switch to UHD. The change will be gradual as households adapt their equipment. The transition will allow a better audiovisual experience for all viewers.

This new plan seeks to modernize television in Spain. With better image and sound quality, entertainment will take a leap forward. It is recommended to check the compatibility of devices as soon as possible.
