Wind gusts of up to 150 km/h: these 4 areas are warned about the strong winds that may arrive
In the coming days, experts are warning about the weather fronts and storms that may reach Spain.
The coming days promise to be especially hectic regarding weather conditions. According to experts, the weekend and the start of next week will be marked by the arrival of several storms and fronts. These will affect a large part of Spanish territory.
Although not all areas will experience the same effects, those impacted will strongly feel the bad weather. We can expect rain, snow, strong winds, and a significant maritime storm.
Storm Floris: Could Arrive Next Weekend
As noted by Meteored, some models already indicate that storm Floris could become a significant system. The winds will be one of the most notable elements of Floris, especially in the north of the country.
The first intense gusts would begin to be felt in Galicia from the early hours of Sunday. There could be prevailing south-southwest winds that, if they occur, will quickly raise waves of 3 to 4 meters (9.8 to 13.1 feet) on the Galician coasts. This is affirmed by Meteored.
The most critical moment of the storm would arrive between midday Sunday and early Monday morning. During this period, gusts of 70-80 km/h (43.5-49.7 mph) are expected to be widespread in Galicia, Asturias, Cantabria, and the Basque Country. In places like Santiago de Compostela, Bilbao, and Santander, winds could reach 90 km/h (55.9 mph), while A Coruña could record gusts of up to 96 km/h (59.7 mph).
In the Cantabrian Mountains, the situation will be more wingere, with gusts that could exceed 150 km/h (93.2 mph), reaching hurricane levels. The interior of the peninsula will not be spared either, with gusts over 100 km/h (62.1 mph) in mountainous areas and more than 80 km/h (49.7 mph) on the northern plateau. Practically the entire territory could experience winds of 50-60 km/h (31.1-37.3 mph) or more.
Next Week: More Instability on the Horizon
Although the full extent of the storm is yet to be defined, the initial models suggest that instability will continue into next week. New storms could impact the Atlantic, maintaining the pattern of rain, winds, and cold in much of Spain.
In this scenario, it is likely that yellow and even orange warnings will be activated in many regions, especially for wind and maritime storms. The population is advised to take wingere precautions, especially in coastal and mountainous areas. It will be necessary to stay updated with the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) and other official sources.
The end of January promises to be intense in terms of weather, with phenomena that could bring significant impacts to different regions.
