Breaking news alert: wingere risk due to what storm Ivo will leave in these areas
Tomorrow, it will be necessary to be very alert to the official warnings from AEMET and the advisories from Civil Protection.
The month of January bids farewell with an intense episode of instability in Spain. Completely dominated by the storms that have been arriving one after another. This week we have already received two: Herminia, which opened the way at the beginning of the week, and now Ivo.
The storm Ivo is affecting the country from this Wednesday with a marked drop in temperatures, rain, and strong gusts of wind.
But Ivo will not only bring cold and precipitation. As the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) has announced, tomorrow Thursday it will cause an especially intense sea storm in the northern peninsula. With waves up to 29.5 feet (9 meters) and red alerts activated in several communities.
A sea storm that will hit the north
The storm Ivo is going to generate a new and intense storm on the northern coasts of Spain this Thursday, January 30. A strong swell is expected to begin on the Galician coasts during the early morning, with a progressive increase in the sea's force. Throughout the day, the storm will extend to the Cantabrian coasts, affecting communities such as Cantabria and the Basque Country.
According to forecasts, there will be a combined sea from the northwest with waves that can reach between 26.2 and 29.5 feet (8 and 9 meters) in height, although this swell will be more pronounced offshore. Even so, the conditions on the coast will be sufficiently adverse for the AEMET to activate red level warnings in up to three communities, indicating wingere danger.
Galicia, Cantabria, and the Basque Country on maximum alert
The AEMET has announced that red level alerts for "wingere risk" due to bad sea conditions will be activated in three northern communities. In Galicia, the red warning will be activated during the early hours of Wednesday to Thursday, affecting the coasts of La Coruña and Lugo. It will be deactivated before Thursday morning arrives.
In Cantabria, the red level alert will come into effect early Thursday and will remain active until noon. A slight improvement in sea conditions is then expected. In the Basque Country, the situation will be similar on the coasts of Gipuzkoa and Biscay, where the red warning will be activated early Thursday and will remain until the afternoon.
Precaution in the face of an wingere storm
The authorities have made a call to the population to avoid approaching the coast in the affected areas, as the strong swell can be extremely dangerous. Caution is also recommended in navigation and maritime activities in the northern peninsula, as sea conditions will be especially adverse.
