The communications team at Casa Real has issued a new statement through all their distribution channels. In this statement, they have revealed the very special moment that King Felipe VI will experience in just a few hours.

In recent weeks, different regions of the country have been caught up in a tough battle against the fires that are devastating their lands and populations. The magnitude of the disaster is such that it is estimated the flames have consumed between 914,900 and 988,400 acres (370,000 and 400,000 hectares) of national territory.

As expected, this devastating situation prompted the immediate reaction of King Felipe and Doña Letizia. So much so that, after canceling their private vacation, both visited the areas most affected by the fire. Among them were several municipalities in Castilla y León such as Sanabria and Las Médulas, as well as the Galician town of Verín, in Ourense.

Now, the monarch has decided to take things a step further and this Tuesday, September 9, has organized a very special and meaningful audience at the Zarzuela Palace. Casa Real has confirmed and shared this news through a new statement.

King Felipe receives a delegation of personnel involved in extinguishing the fires

According to the statement published on Casa Real's official website, Zarzuela will receive a visit from several people involved in extinguishing the fires:

"Don Felipe will receive at Zarzuela Palace a delegation of personnel involved in the aerial unit that participated in extinguishing the forest fires last August."

During their visit to the most affected areas, Felipe and Letizia were unable to speak with all the workers who were fighting the flames. That's why they do not want to miss the opportunity to meet with them and "thank them for their work."

According to this statement, the delegation will be made up of "personnel from the Ministries of Defense, Interior, for Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge of the affected Communities."

In addition, there will also be representatives from the Autonomous Communities that helped with their aerial resources "to extinguish the fires." Among them are Madrid, Aragón, Murcia, Asturias, Andalucía, Castilla-La Mancha, Catalonia, Valencia, Navarra, and the Balearic Islands.

As recalled in this statement, during the month of August, King Felipe and Doña Letizia "visited the main areas affected by the severe fires." "There, they learned firsthand about the damage suffered and the needs of the affected residents," the statement adds.
