This Is the New Alternative for Decarbonization
Naturgy strengthens its commitment to renewable gases as a key to a circular economy
Naturgy is consolidating its leadership in the energy transition with a firm commitment to biomethane.
Esta es la nueva alternativa para la descarbonización
This renewable gas, obtained from organic waste, allows emissions reduction and the use of existing infrastructure without the need for significant additional investments.
The company has launched several production plants and continues to advance new projects to maximize its impact on decarbonization.
Biomethane and green hydrogen are essential for reducing the carbon footprint of the energy sector.
In Spain, the potential production of biomethane could cover up to 40% of the national demand for natural gas, which would reduce energy dependence and promote sustainable development.

Naturgy has already managed to inject biomethane into the gas distribution network and is working on expanding its production capacity.
Economic and Social Impact of Biomethane
The development of biomethane not only contributes to environmental sustainability but also boosts the circular economy and generates employment.

The expansion of this renewable gas is estimated to create more than 20,000 direct jobs and 40,000 indirect jobs in Spain.
Additionally, its production promotes efficient management of agricultural and livestock waste, transforming them into a clean and local energy source.
Naturgy, Pioneer in Promoting Biomethane
The company has developed a multisectoral collaboration model to accelerate the implementation of biomethane.
Currently, it has three operational plants in Galicia and Catalonia, and in the coming months, it will launch new facilities in Valencia and Seville.

With these projects, Naturgy will achieve an annual production of 104 GWh of biomethane, reinforcing its commitment to the energy transition.
Biomethane can be used without the need to modify current gas infrastructure, facilitating its integration into domestic and industrial consumption.
In the residential sector, its use allows for the decarbonization of homes without citizens having to incur additional costs.
In the industry, large companies like Inditex and Lecta have already signed agreements with Naturgy to replace natural gas with biomethane in their production processes.
Nedgia's Distribution Network and the Future of Biomethane
Naturgy's gas distribution subsidiary, Nedgia, plays a key role in the integration of biomethane into the energy system.

With more than 35,418 miles (57,000 kilometers) of network in 1,150 municipalities, the company facilitates the connection of new projects and the injection of renewable gas into the network.
Currently, Nedgia has signed agreements to connect 45 biomethane projects, with an injection capacity of 2,400 GWh per year, enough to supply nearly 500,000 homes.
Biomethane is a viable, sustainable, and efficient alternative to advance decarbonization. Spain has great potential in the production of this renewable gas, and Naturgy is leading the way with strategic investments and key alliances.
Its commitment to biomethane not only strengthens the country's energy independence but also boosts the circular economy and job creation.
With proper development, biomethane can become an essential pillar of Spain's sustainable energy future.
