Mary of Denmark Separates from Her Husband Frederik: Everything We Know
Queen Mary made an emotional reappearance: She was alone, however, spreading new speculations
The Danish royal family has once again captured international attention at one of the year's most solemn events. Mary of Denmark, now queen consort, has represented her country alone. The funeral ceremony of Pope Francis at the Vatican was the setting for this picture that has sparked discussion.
Amid a busy schedule of activities, it was up to Mary of Denmark to represent her country at an event of great symbolism. Not only her firmness and elegance have drawn attention, but also her solo role.

An Appearance Filled with Solemnity
Mary of Denmark attended the funeral of Pope Francis at the Vatican on behalf of the Royal House. She wore a black coat and the traditional veil, respecting the royals' protocol. Her sober and serene demeanor placed her in the front row alongside other European monarchs.
During the ceremony, Mary was very close to Felipe VI and Letizia, who also attended the tribute. However, her husband, King Frederik X, could not join her this time. Frederik's absence was due to prior commitments that prevented him from being in Italy.
The king was in Japan inaugurating the Nordic countries' pavilion at the Expo 2025 in Osaka. Although his return was scheduled for April 25, the logistics did not allow his presence in Rome. Thus, Mary faced the event alone, which was described as "almost perfect" in its execution.

The Image of a Confident and Committed Queen
Mary of Denmark had already had meetings with Pope Francis during her time as crown princess. Now, as queen consort, her image took on new weight before the international community. In strict black, she once again showed her institutional commitment.
In her circle, they highlight her composure and absolute respect for protocol in every appearance. The Danish Royal House shared images of Frederik in Japan to explain his absence at the funeral. An important trip that, despite its significance, caused comments due to the coincidence of dates.
Besides Mary, figures such as Charles III and Camilla, as well as Mathilde and Philippe of Belgium, gathered at the ceremony. The presence of so many royal houses confirmed the global impact of the tribute to the pontiff. Mary rose to the occasion, strengthening her image on the international stage.
