'not Ruled Out': Mario Picazo Warns of Storms and Even a Tornado in Spain

A weekend that will stand out for the rains and storms we will have in various parts of the territory

That the weather was going to be unsettled next weekend in Spain was something experts had been announcing for days. What not everyone expected is what Mario Picazo has revealed in more detail about what may happen in certain parts of the country.

Beyond the rain, the meteorologist has warned of the arrival of intense storms and even the possibility of tornadoes forming in the southern peninsula.

A Storm That Will Bring Rain and Storms from the West

Mario Picazo has explained that this episode of instability will be caused by a storm. It descends from the west of the peninsula and will move south. Its impact will be notable, with intense rainfall in several communities, although the most significant effects will be felt in the southwest of the country.

This Friday, with the storm located southwest of the Gulf of Cádiz, the most notable rain will arrive through southern Portugal, Huelva, Cádiz and Ceuta. Additionally, the rainfall will extend inland and eastward, affecting the province of Málaga with some intensity.

Intense Storms and Possible Formation of a Tornado

Between Saturday and Sunday, the storm will continue to advance and the rain will extend to the north of the peninsula, although it will remain concentrated in the southern half. Mario Picazo announces that the Valencian Community could also be affected, especially in the south of Valencia and the north of Alicante, with intense rainfall.

But the most striking detail that Mario Picazo has pointed out is another. In some areas of the south, especially in Andalusia and points near the coast, the situation could lead to very intense storms.

In some cases, there could even be the formation of waterspouts or tornadoes. These types of phenomena are not common, but in situations of cold air at altitude, like the one expected, they can be surprising.

Canary Islands Will Also Experience a Rainy Weekend

The Canary archipelago will not escape this episode of instability that Mario Picazo talks about. Two rounds of rainfall are expected there.

A lighter one on Friday, caused by the passage of the main front of the storm. The other, stronger between Sunday and the start of the next week, when a pocket of cold air at altitude could generate more intense rain.

Uncertainty in the Mediterranean Starting Sunday

Another factor to watch is the cold air at altitude. According to Mario Picazo, it could play a key role in the evolution of the weather between Sunday and the start of the week. Its presence over the Mediterranean could reinforce instability, leading to strong storms in coastal areas, although its exact impact will depend on how the storm moves.
