Kate Middleton under attack: these are the new members of her family with William
Willem-Alexander and Kate Middleton's family is welcoming new members, but not everyone approves of the princes' choice
The lives of members of the British royal family always attract attention, whether it's because of their public gestures, their family decisions, or their official commitments. However, behind the majesty and protocol, they have a more personal and human side that becomes news. In the case of Kate Middleton and Prince William, it's not the first time their decisions have caused surprise in the public sphere.
Despite the perfectly controlled image that's projected, the royal family constantly faces judgments and opinions. Decisions about their personal lives, their values, and the causes they support don't go unnoticed. This time, criticism came because of an apparently innocent gesture, which caused both support and controversy.

The controversy with PETA: breed or adopt?
Recently, the Prince and Princess of Wales shared a photo in which they celebrated William's birthday, surrounded by their cocker spaniel Orla and her puppies. It was a family and tender photo, but it was quickly used to question their actions regarding animals. In a context of shelters overcrowded with homeless dogs, the organization PETA didn't take long to intervene.
PETA, the well-known animal rights organization, was blunt in its criticism of the Prince and Princess of Wales. According to Elisa Allen, the organization's vice president, breeding a litter instead of adopting in times of crisis is "astonishingly out of place." The accusation arises because, according to Allen, shelters are full of puppies waiting for a chance in a loving home.

The organization believes William and Kate should follow the example of Charles III and Camilla, who adopted a dog from a shelter. Allen's words have sparked a public debate; many believe that, while adoption is a commendable option, breeding Orla shouldn't be seen as a mistake. Along the same lines, Lady Colin Campbell, a well-known royal commentator, defended the couple's choice, arguing that PETA is acting excessively by criticizing a personal decision.
The royal family's support for rescued animals
Over the years, the royal family has been a strong supporter of adopting rescued animals. Charles III and Camilla, for example, have adopted dogs from Battersea, a renowned shelter in London. In doing so, they show their support for animals in need.
The late Queen Elizabeth II was also known for her love of dogs, especially her beloved Corgis. In this context, the criticism of the Prince and Princess of Wales seems to create a contrast. On one hand, they're criticized for breeding their dog, while other members of the royal family choose adoption.

Prince William and Kate Middleton have received both support and criticism for their decision, showing how a simple family gesture can spark controversy. However, Kensington Palace has chosen not to comment on this matter, letting the debate continue.
