Neither Money nor Fame: Jordi Sánchez Confesses Why He Works on 'La Que Se Avecina'
Jordi Sánchez has revealed how he received the offer from the Caballero brothers, creators of 'La que se avecina'
Jordi Sánchez has once again shown that he doesn't need masks. The Catalan actor confessed in a recent interview that his commitment to La que se avecina has nothing to do with fame or money. He does it because, from the beginning, he fell in love with the project.
His face is one of the most recognized on Spanish television. Antonio Recio, the character he has portrayed for more than three decades, has become an icon. But behind that role is an actor with a long career and a very clear motivation.

Sánchez has spoken openly about his beginnings and his evolution in Spanish comedy. He did so in an interview given to the channel The Nude Project, where he reviewed the key moments of his career. He also offered an intimate perspective on his connection with the series that catapulted him to the general public.
Although he is now popular throughout the country, his path didn't start in La que se avecina. Long before, he was already a familiar face on Catalan television. In Plats bruts, a cult comedy on TV3, he wrote and played Josep Lopes for 73 episodes.
Jordi Sánchez, Delighted in 'La que se avecina'
It was precisely that work that caught the attention of the Caballero brothers. They first offered him a very minor role in Aquí no hay quien viva. He played a priest who barely appeared in one episode, but left a mark.
Three years later, he received a second call. This time for a character that would change his life: Antonio Recio, the wholesaler who doesn't clean fish. Initially, Sánchez wasn't entirely sure how to approach it. But he accepted the challenge with enthusiasm and humor.

"I was saying: 'Let's see how this should be done, I don't see it so clearly that this guy is like that,'" he recalled. He knew the character had an excessive load, which could be offensive if not handled carefully. But he trusted his instinct and the direction of the Caballero brothers.
The decision was the right one. Sixteen seasons have passed, and La que se avecina continues to film new episodes. Recio's character, with his outbursts and peculiar worldview, is now part of the collective imagination.
However, Sánchez wanted to make something important clear. He doesn't continue in the series for financial benefits or public recognition. He accepted and keeps the role because he was genuinely excited about the proposal from day one.
"I really liked the offer. I fell in love with the project," he said emphatically. That sincerity has earned him even more affection from his followers.
Jordi Sánchez Has a Good Relationship with His Colleagues
In the interview, he also shared filming anecdotes. He recalled a surreal episode with his colleague Nacho Guerreros. It happened at three in the morning in a cemetery when the Civil Guard caught them filming "half-naked."
Those kinds of moments make him especially value his work. For him, it's not just about acting, but about living unique experiences with a team he considers almost family. The chemistry between the actors is one of the keys to the series' lasting success.
He has never lost sight of respect for his profession. He assures that, although Recio's character is extreme, he always tries to find a base of humanity. He doesn't want his portrayal to be an empty caricature.

In fact, his initial concern was not to generate rejection. "I thought they might hit me on the street," he joked. But the audience understood that behind the character, there was a well-measured humorous intention.
Besides being an actor, Jordi Sánchez is also a screenwriter. He has written plays, movies, and series, which gives him a broader view of the medium. That experience allows him to build characters with more nuances and depth.
His career is not limited to television. He has worked in film and theater and has shown versatility that goes beyond humor. However, he knows that La que se avecina has been a turning point in his career.
He doesn't mind being identified with Recio. On the contrary, he considers it a sign of the audience's affection. But he also remembers that he has been playing other very different roles for more than two decades.
At this stage, Jordi values authenticity above all. He doesn't want to be part of projects just for financial interest. He seeks challenges that motivate him and where he can enjoy the creative process.
That's why, when he was offered to be part of La que se avecina, he didn't hesitate. It wasn't a matter of fame or filling the bank account. It was an opportunity to be part of something special.
