Harsh Statement by Álvaro Vargas Llosa, Son of Mario Vargas Llosa: 'My Father Was...'

Yesterday we learned that the famous writer Mario Vargas Llosa had passed away on Sunday at the age of 89 at his home in Peru. A tragic loss that has shocked the entire world and devastated his family. This was made clear in the harsh statement that Álvaro Vargas Llosa, his son, gave on behalf of his family.

Therefore, before undertaking the literary funeral, he gave some words to the press where he spoke openly about Mario. He said: "My father was a universal person, so this grief beyond borders is natural."

Before the writer's funeral, he spoke to the press stating: "My father was a universal person, so this grief beyond borders is natural. But we never thought it would take the proportions of what has happened."

To which he added: "We only have words of gratitude for the messages and condolences that are coming to us from all over the world. Yes, from personalities, from institutions, from people, from organizations through you and to all of them, thanks on behalf of my mother, Patricia, my siblings, Morgana and Gonzalo, and also mine."​

Álvaro Vargas Llosa Talks About the Intimate Farewell to Mario Vargas Llosa

Regarding the intimacy of this farewell to Mario Vargas Llosa, his son spoke clearly and forcefully. He said: "We have agreed to keep this mourning private. Therefore, we have decided to hold the wake for my father at home and not in a public place, and we are going to ask you to respect that privacy."

After which, he concluded his statement by stating: "That also means that we are going to avoid making more statements. I can only say that Peru has lost one of its best men and we have lost an infinite human being. But we have the memory of the great father he was."

Following the writer's wishes, his remains have been cremated in a private ceremony in Lima. The funeral procession departed from his home. The remains have been handed over to his three children, who have decided not to hold public tributes or official ceremonies.

The family has expressed their desire to live this mourning in the strictest privacy, as the writer himself expressed during his lifetime. Despite this, the expressions of affection have not ceased. Numerous political leaders, cultural institutions, and anonymous admirers have paid tribute to the legacy of the Peruvian author.
