An absence that surprises many

The fact that Denmark's kings did not attend the enthronement mass of Pope Leo XIV in Rome has raised many eyebrows. Although Mary was present at her predecessor's funeral, this time both monarchs confirmed in advance that they would not travel to the Vatican.

Danish press, through media like Billed Bladet, confirmed that Frederik and Mary of Denmark would not travel. However, they expressed that the reasons for the absence were not specified. This fact sets Denmark apart from the rest of the European monarchies, which did mark their presence at one of the most important religious and diplomatic events.

The event was attended by King Philippe and Queen Mathilde of Belgium, who quickly confirmed their attendance. In Spain, King Felipe and Queen Letizia adjusted their schedule to be present. Letizia wore the exclusive privilege of dressing in white during the ceremony.

Meanwhile, the British Royal House delegated the official representation to Prince Edward, Duke of Edinburgh, keeping the tradition started by Elizabeth II. Queen Máxima of the Netherlands attended without Willem, and Princess Victoria represented Sweden, although her parents were at Pope Francis's funeral.

An event that makes history and generates expectations

The enthronement mass also brought together Albert and Charlene of Monaco, as well as the Dukes of Luxembourg, Henri and Maria Teresa. It was an exceptional gathering that reflects the importance of international and diplomatic relations.

While the absence of the Danish kings generates debate, the rest of the Royal Houses took the opportunity to show unity and commitment. In this historic event, ties were reinforced, and an image of cohesion was shown to the world.
