Dr. Francisco Martínez Pérez receives the Golden Stethoscope Award
Pioneer in the advanced neurophysiological study of complex regions (pelvic floor, ankle, and foot)
Dr. Francisco Martínez Pérez holds a degree in Medicine and Surgery from the Complutense University of Madrid and is a specialist in Clinical Neurophysiology. After completing his medical residency in 2004 at the Puerta de Hierro University Hospital in Madrid, he worked as a physician and head of the Clinical Neurophysiology Service at that hospital.
Clinical Neurophysiology is a medical specialty aimed at studying the functional assessment of the central nervous system (brain, spinal cord) and peripheral (nerves and muscles), as well as the sensory organs and their pathways, through the use of a series of cutting-edge techniques and high-level equipment for diagnostic, prognostic, and therapeutic purposes.
Dr. Martínez Pérez uses essential techniques primarily based on recording the bioelectrical activity of different structures and systems in a basal situation or after stimulation. He holds a Master's in Neurological Electrodiagnosis from the University of Barcelona, as well as a Master's in Sleep: Physiology and Pathology from the Pablo de Olavide University of Seville. Additionally, he is a member of the Spanish Society of Clinical Neurophysiology (SENFC), actively participating in the Sleep Group, the Spanish Sleep Society (SES), participating in the Pediatric Group, the Spanish Association of Intraoperative Neurophysiological Monitoring, the Chronic Pelvic Pain Committee, the Neurocritical Commission, and the Neurological Cell Therapy Group.
Similarly, the doctor has directed and participated in fifteen clinical trials, as well as in more than one hundred presentations, training courses, scientific publications, and book chapters, including several consensus and guidelines for scientific societies (SENFC, SES, AEP) and for the National Specialty Commission. In addition to his extensive university teaching experience, including directing the Master's in Update in Neurophysiological Diagnosis and Treatment, and his participation as a teacher in the Master's in Sleep Medicine, the doctor performs editorial work as a member of the editorial committee of ScienceVolks Publications and an expert reviewer for various international medical publications: Journal of Pain Management and Therapy, Journal of Neurology and Neurorehabilitation Research, Current Pediatrics Research, Biomedical Research, and Journal of Brain and Neurology.
Currently, he completes his clinical practice at the Puerta de Hierro University Hospital - Majadahonda with highly specialized activity in the private sector, at the Vitruvio Biomechanics and Surgery Institute, with a special focus on the neurophysiological evaluation of neuromuscular and painful disorders, as well as research.
Dr. Martínez is one of the pioneers in the advanced neurophysiological study of the pelvic floor and, more recently, in the painful processes of the ankle and foot, fields in which he has developed his own techniques. He is a promoter of non-invasive neuromodulation (repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation) and the mathematical analysis of biomedical signals for advanced diagnostic and research purposes (QEEG).
The study of the pelvic floor consists of a set of integrated diagnostic techniques aimed at performing a functional assessment of the various regional neuromuscular structures. It is mainly used in the diagnosis of patients reporting pelvic pain, subacute or chronic, being useful in studies of functional alterations of urination or defecation (vesicourethral dysfunctions, incontinence) or in the organic assessment of sexual dysfunctions.
Thus, Clinical Neurophysiology allows for the rapid and precise diagnosis of diseases affecting the pelvic floor, carried out through tests with state-of-the-art medical equipment.
The differential diagnosis of ankle and foot pain requires a multimodal interdisciplinary collaboration, having developed specific neurophysiological techniques to assess the function of locoregional nerves.
In Dr. Martínez's opinion: "Neurophysiological techniques must be interpreted in a clinical context, so individualized attention is essential, dedicating the necessary time and striving for the highest quality to optimize results. The present and future of the specialty lie in collaborative interdisciplinary relationships that offer comprehensive solutions through advanced assessment, diagnostic, and treatment techniques."
The doctor's philosophy is based on offering comprehensive care, actively listening to the patient, and providing the solution that best suits their consultation. He is also a staunch advocate of teamwork, centered on the patient.
The Golden Stethoscope Award for Innovation in Medicine was established to reward the best doctors in each of their specialties, being this prestigious award, the one with the most doctors in medicine and university professors among its awardees.
The European Association of Industry, Technology, and Innovation, known as AEITI, was founded in 2019 to help and support Spanish companies in their competitiveness in Europe and the world. Despite the pandemic, they have managed to move forward. On December 26, 2021, they signed a mutual collaboration agreement with the Chinese Association, EU China, Science, Technology Committee, participated by the European Union and the Chinese Government, based on the collaboration agreement signed in 2017.
They have also signed a cultural and business collaboration agreement with the Miami INSJ Foundation, an international social journalism network, which is a reference foundation there. It has been accepted into the DESA database of the UN. AEITI has as its president Mr. Jordi Bentanachs and vice president Ms. Rosa María Puentedura, renowned Spanish entrepreneurs.
