The AEMET gets ahead of Jorge Rey and puts 14 areas of Spain on alert: it's imminent

A new Atlantic storm, named Ivo, will bring heavy rains, strong winds, and snowfalls to much of the country.

The AEMET has issued a special warning due to the arrival of the storm Ivo, thus getting ahead of Jorge Rey's predictions. After the passage of Herminia, which already weakened in the territory yesterday, a new episode of instability is approaching. This deep Atlantic storm promises to generate intense meteorological effects in several Spanish regions.

Today, 14 regions are under meteorological alert by the AEMET. The warnings include strong winds, heavy rains, snowfalls, and adverse coastal phenomena. This new episode will especially affect the north and east of the Peninsula, also extending to the southern coast and the islands.

A new storm marked by intense wind and coastal phenomena

The wind will be one of the main features of this day. Very strong westerly gusts are expected in Galicia, the Cantabrian region, the Iberian system, and the Northern plateau. In mountainous areas of the Cantabrian mountain range and northwestern coasts, the gusts could reach hurricane levels.

The coastal storm will be particularly significant in Galicia and the Cantabrian region, where the waves could reach between 6 and 8 meters (19.7 and 26.2 feet). In Alborán, the waves will range between 3 and 4 meters (9.8 and 13.1 feet) due to the strong westerly wind. These adverse conditions will hinder maritime activities and affect areas near the coast.

There will also be widespread rain and snow

Precipitation will be widespread again, although less likely in the east of the Peninsula. Galicia, the west of the Central system, and the Pyrenees will record persistent rain. These accumulations could cause complications in low-lying areas and affect visibility in elevated points.

The snow level will initially be around 1500 meters (4921 feet) but will quickly drop by the end of the day. The heaviest snowfalls will occur in the Cantabrian mountain range and the western Pyrenees, where significant accumulations are expected.

Galicia will be one of the most affected regions, with warnings for wind, heavy rain, and adverse coastal phenomena. Cantabria and the Basque Country also face similar conditions, with the risk of wingere waves and intense wind in exposed areas.

Asturias and Navarra could record persistent snowfalls in mountainous areas today, complicating mobility on high-altitude roads. Castilla y León, Aragón, and La Rioja activate warnings for snow and wind, while Castilla-La Mancha expects intense gusts in elevated points.

Catalonia, the Balearic Islands, and Murcia are under warning for coastal phenomena and wind. Andalusia presents alerts for storms and strong gusts, while Melilla will be affected by intense wind during the day.

The arrival of the storm Ivo today inaugurates a new episode of instability this winter. Spain faces a day marked by wingere phenomena, as the storm advances from the Atlantic toward the interior of the Peninsula. The AEMET's forecast is that its passage will have a notable impact on various regions of the country.
