'very Adverse Day': the 2 Areas Where It Will Rain Nonstop in the Coming Hours

Spain faces another day of intense and persistent rain, and today AEMET has already issued several warnings.

More Rain for Today. Atmospheric instability continues to dominate the landscape in Spain this Wednesday. The State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) has already warned that the rainfall will continue to affect a large part of the territory.

We will have overcast skies and rain that will only be less likely in the Cantabrian, the northeastern third of the peninsula, and the north of the Balearic Islands. In the east and southeast of the peninsula, as well as around the Central System, Strait, and parts of Málaga, the rain will be more intense. There will be significant accumulations throughout the day.

The Canary archipelago is not spared from the heaviest rains, although to a lesser extent. Cloudy intervals with occasional showers are expected, mainly on the northern and eastern slopes. During the afternoon, some precipitation could be locally heavy.

The provinces that will record the heaviest rain will be Murcia, Almería, Castellón, and Valencia, where accumulations could exceed 100-150 liters (26-40 gal.) throughout the day. Additionally, in some parts of the southern peninsula, it is not ruled out that the rainfall will be joined by locally strong storms, increasing the risk of flooding and riverbank overflows.

Orange Alerts in These Two Communities

AEMET has issued alerts due to the intensity of the rain. In most areas, a yellow level has been established. There are two territories, however, where the situation is more concerning, and an orange alert has been activated.

In the Valencian Community, Castellón and Valencia will be under orange alert for persistent and intense rain. It will be especially in the southern coast of both provinces and the northern interior and northern coast of Valencia. Forecasts indicate that in these territories, accumulations of 100 liters (26 gal.) in 12 hours or up to 150 liters (40 gal.) in 24 hours can be recorded.

In Alicante, although the situation will be less extreme, the yellow alert is also maintained. However, as the hours pass, it could vary, so it is important to stay informed.

Meanwhile, in Andalusia, the province of Almería will also be seriously affected by the rain. The areas of the Almanzora Valley, Los Vélez, and the Almeria Levant will be under orange alert due to the forecast of strong and persistent rain. These could leave up to 80 liters (21 gal.) in just 12 hours.

Meanwhile, in other Andalusian parts like Cádiz and Málaga, the alert level remains yellow for now. We will have to see how the situation evolves throughout the day.

Emergencies Warn of the Danger from Today's Rain

In light of this episode of intense rain, the 112 Emergency Service of the Valencian Community has warned of the risks that the persistence of the storm may pose.

According to their statements, the day will be "very adverse, with persistent and locally strong or very strong precipitation in Valencia and Castellón." They have also urged extreme caution, as the continuity of the rain could cause rises in streams and ravines, increasing the risk of flooding.

Precaution Against the Rainstorm

Authorities recommend avoiding unnecessary travel, especially in the localities under orange alert, where the rain can cause road closures and dangerous water accumulations. Additionally, they emphasize the importance of not crossing watercourses or flooded areas and staying informed through official channels.

With this outlook, Spain faces a challenging day in meteorological terms, where caution will be key to avoiding incidents in the areas most affected by the rain.
