The warning from the former socialist mayor of Peñarroya to the Civil Guard

The former socialist mayor of Peñarroya, Víctor Pedregosa, warns the Civil Guard  about moments of insecurity following his dismissal.

During the motion of no confidence that ousted him, Pedregosa called for greater presence of the Civil Guard in the face of potential insecure scenarios.

Pedregosa highlighted having regained leadership of Guadiato and La Zona Norte, surpassing Pozoblanco, in his final speech.

The extraordinary plenary session approved the motion of no confidence with 9 votes in favor and 8 against, sealing the change of leadership in the municipality.

The new mayor of Peñarroya-Pueblonuevo is María Victoria Paterna, from the municipal group Sí Peñarroya, a splinter from the PSOE.

The motion was supported by PP, Vox, Sí Peñarroya, and an unaffiliated councilor, achieving an absolute majority for the change.

The only votes against the motion were from the PSOE and the Izquierda Unida councilor, who supported Pedregosa.

The atmosphere in the extraordinary plenary session was tense, with the building crowded by the public and a notable police presence.

The session was held in the Mercado de Abastos, the current provisional seat of the Town Hall, due to renovations in the main building.

The Civil Guard and the Local Police took security measures following graffiti against the spokespersons of the motion of no confidence.

Pedregosa has been in office for just a year and a half, since the municipal elections held in May 2023.

The former mayor thanked the Civil Guard for their assistance and requested greater presence in the face of potential upcoming challenges.
