This Is How Ángel Víctor Torres Sets up His 'vacations' in the Canary Islands With Public Money

The minister traveled 35 times to Canary Islands in 2024, extending stays and charging expenses to the public treasury.

More Than Half of Ángel Víctor Torres's Official Trips in 2024 Have Been to the Canary Islands. Out of the 60 trips he made, 35 were to the archipelago.

A repetitive pattern occurred especially  on weekends, allowing him to stay several days in his homeland with transportation expenses covered.

Official documents from the Ministry of Territorial Policy show that Torres justified his visits with events of little significance.

For example, a visit to the Casa de Galicia in Gran Canaria allowed him to stay on the islands for six days without accommodation expenses.

Linked to the 'Koldo' Case

Torres's trips have been under public scrutiny after being mentioned by businessman Víctor de Aldama, linked to the 'Koldo' case.

To refute any involvement, the minister presented airline certificates proving his presence in the Canary Islands on the specified dates.

However, this only confirmed the frequency of his trips to the archipelago at the public's expense.

The Ministry allocated 25,224.33 euros to Torres's trips: 22,833.59 euros on transportation, 1,926.38 on accommodation and 464.36 on restaurants. These figures exclude seven trips whose costs are not yet accounted for.

Extended Stays in the Canary Islands

Torres's pattern is clear: extend his stay in the Canary Islands with minor institutional activities. Between December 2023 and January 2024, he made four trips to the archipelago, spending more than 20 days in his homeland.

One of his most notable trips took place from January 3 to 8, for a visit to the Casa de Galicia in Gran Canaria. Just five days later, he returned for an informational forum and shortly after, to attend local meetings.

In May 2024, Torres stayed in the Canary Islands for seven days for interviews with local media and receiving an award.

In June, he returned from June 27 to July 2 to present a book and attend the Max Awards gala. Shortly after, from July 4 to 8, he participated in the inauguration of a pedestrian walkway.

This pattern repeats in September, when from September 3 to 9 he traveled to Tenerife and Gran Canaria to visit a Masonic temple.

Just three days later, he returned for another institutional meeting, extending his stay until the 16th.

Comparisons with Pedro Sánchez

Torres's strategy is reminiscent of Pedro Sánchez, who has also linked minor events to official trips with public expenses. Although PSOE demands austerity in its ethical code, the facts show otherwise.

Another similar case is that of Minister Fernando Grande-Marlaska, who spent 1.3 million euros on travel and maintenance. Mainly for using official planes instead of commercial flights.

Ángel Víctor Torres's trips to the Canary Islands reflect a questionable use of public resources. While the Government preaches austerity, the trips of high-ranking officials seem to follow a different logic.

Torres's pattern, linked to extended stays in his homeland, continues to raise questions about the true purpose of these trips.
