This Is How Sánchez's 'Best' Friend Came to the Rescue of His Brother's Operas

David Sanza helped Begoña Gómez and David Sánchez secure sponsors for their projects.

Pedro Sánchez's government has been embroiled in numerous scandals, especially the indictments of his wife, Begoña Gómez, and his brother, musician David Sánchez. However, these are not the only figures in the president's inner circle involved in scandals; his "close friend," David Sanza, completes a controversial triangle of favors.

David Sanza, a friend of Sánchez and an insurance broker, was the one who helped Begoña Gómez contact the CEO of Reales Seguros. This was to sponsor one of her chairs at the Complutense University of Madrid. However, Sánchez's "close friend" not only helped Sánchez's wife but also served as a link for the younger brother of the socialist president.

According to documents from the Central Operational Unit of the Civil Guard, businessman Sanza allegedly advised David Sánchez. This was in the search for funding for his operatic productions at the Badajoz Provincial Council.

On March 4 of last year, Sanza held a virtual meeting with David Sánchez and Luis Carrero, an advisor at La Moncloa and a close collaborator of the president's brother. The meeting aimed to explore funding avenues for the operas organized within the Young Opera program, directed by Sánchez at the Badajoz council. All of this, according to what was published by the digital outlet OkDiario.

During the meeting, Sanza introduced a law firm specializing in the management of shows and culture, with experience in the entertainment sector. Among the options discussed, the use of the tax lease system was addressed.

This is a mechanism that allows production companies to transfer the tax benefits of their live shows to companies that incorporate them into their corporate tax. In return, the production companies receive immediate liquidity for organizing their events.

The involvement of an advisor from La Moncloa and the possible use of tax advantages in these productions has caused interest in the management of these funds, as well as the connections between the cultural and political spheres.

Sánchez's Brother's Doubts About His Functions Lasted Ten Months

The case of Sánchez's brother continues to raise controversies and doubts. David Sánchez's resignation has only prolonged the process and raised even more suspicions.

However, the investigation has not stopped. Despite everything, the investigator maintains her doubts about the official validity of the annual work reports prepared by David Sánchez. These doubts arise because they lack a date and only present a handwritten signature.

As a result, she has requested explanations from the Provincial Council on this matter. This latest action aligns with recent investigations carried out by the head of the Investigative Court Number 3 of Badajoz.

These investigations are motivated by the need to clarify what the specific responsibilities of the investigated were in his role as coordinator of the Badajoz conservatories. Subsequently, as director of the Performing Arts Office.

The functions that David Sánchez was supposed to perform in his first position within the Badajoz Provincial Council seem poorly defined. In fact, he himself acknowledged it in an email sent ten months after taking the position in 2017.

Among the documentation seized by the UCO, a message stands out that the musician addressed to Elisa Moriano. The latter was responsible for the creation and assignment of the position he held. In that email, Sánchez's brother expresses the need to clearly establish what his functions would be within the Superior Conservatory to avoid confusion.

"I believe that this week you planned to start defining with me the competencies I will assume in the Superior Conservatory before moving forward further. I appreciate it because continuing like this will only generate more confusion," Sánchez wrote.

The UCO highlights this message in its report, especially because of the date it was sent. It was May 28, 2018, that is, ten months after the resolution that determined his appointment. At that time, David Sánchez still didn't know what his functions were in one of the conservatories he was supposed to coordinate.
