The three members close to Yolanda Díaz accused of sexual assault
The news of the arrest of Xosé Xabier Ron Fernández has been released, but alongside him, there are two others
The environment surrounding Yolanda Díaz is making headlines again. This time, it involves Xosé Xabier Ron Fernández, who was a deputy and former colleague of the second vice president in the Galician Parliament between 2012 and 2016.
On Tuesday, Ron Fernández was arrested. He is a former deputy of Alternativa Galega de Esquerda (AGE, Left-wing Galician Alternative) and former candidate of Izquierda Unida (United Left) for mayor of Santiago. According to Okdiario, it was due to an alleged crime of sexual assault in which a minor is supposedly involved. The man was arrested at the place where he teaches, the IES Breamo.
Allegedly, it is a young woman close to the former leader of Izquierda Unida, but not a student at the center where he was arrested. The complaint was filed by the mother of the alleged victim in Santiago.
However, along with Ron, there are two other people close to Díaz who have been allegedly involved in acts of alleged sexual assault.
Notably, Íñigo Errejón—the co-founder of Podemos, deputy of Sumar, and leader of Más País—who decided to step away from politics. The reason for his resignation was due to an alleged sexual assault on host Elisa Mouliaá. It is a case for which the politician and the presenter have already testified before the judge.
Errejón invited the actress to the presentation of his book, and they both went to a bar after the event to have a drink together. Later, Mouliaá, as a courtesy, invited Errejón to a party at a friend's house, and the politician accepted the invitation.
Mouliaá has reported that that night events occurred which she considers to constitute sexual assault by Errejón. Meanwhile, Errejón's defense has stated that the politician is committed to proving his innocence against the accusations.
Thirdly, there is Ramiro Santalices Martínez, Díaz's advisor in the Galician Parliament. He was arrested in 2016 for a crime of consumption and distribution of child pornography. It was found that he did this through the institution's computers.
In 2009, two local activists of Izquierda Unida, José Loureiro and Mercedes Salvatierra, contacted Yolanda Díaz. The reason was to warn her about a finding on the computers at the party's headquarters in Ferrol. According to the media, they had found child pornography content.
According to their complaint, visits to these websites, always made at night and with restricted access to a few users, pointed to Santalices as one of the main suspects.
This situation led Díaz to initiate an internal investigation commission in addition to the provisional suspension of membership. However, she didn't want to direct it at her advisor. Instead, against those activists who pointed him out.
The two activists met with provincial leaders of the party, who decided to keep the computer "with the intention of taking it to an expert to extract data from it." It was at that moment that Loureiro and Salvatierra chose to report the events to the National Police.
