Mompó Drives the Recovery of Local Commerce Affected by the Dana

The Legislature de Valencia approves strengthening security against future floods

The plenary session of the Legislature de Valencia has unanimously approved several initiatives aimed at mitigating the effects of the DANA on October 29 and improving safety against future floods. Among the measures, the request to the Generalitat for a line of aid for affected businesses and the creation of subsidies for the installation of floodgates in homes stand out.

In the session, which began with the establishment of a study commission on the DANA with representation from all political forces, it was also agreed to study the integration of the Bétera Mental Health Hospital into the public network of the Conselleria and to collaborate in the completion of the Ojos Negros greenway to the Port of Sagunto.

Support for Affected Businesses

One of the central points of the day was the approval of a motion presented by Compromís to encourage the recovery of small businesses in the towns most affected by the DANA. The spokesperson for the formation, Dolors Gimeno, proposed the implementation of a line of commercial vouchers for the more than 5,000 affected establishments.

From the government team, the first vice president, Natàlia Enguix, expressed her support for the initiative, opening the door to alternatives such as direct economic incentives. Enguix recalled that the Legislature's budget already includes six million euros for this type of action.

Strengthening Safety Against Floods

Another approved measure is the implementation of subsidies for municipalities to facilitate the installation of floodgates in homes. The proposal received support from all groups, who agreed on the need to strengthen protection against extreme weather events.

Socialist deputy Empar Folgado emphasized the concern of the residents affected by the DANA and the importance of learning from what happened, while Vox spokesperson Sergio Pastor defended the need for unity in this type of action. PP spokesperson Reme Mazzolari insisted that the safety of citizens must be a priority and advocated for alleviating the economic burden on those affected.

Bétera Hospital and Sustainable Mobility

The plenary session also gave the green light to the continuation of the process of integrating the Bétera Mental Health Hospital into the public health network, with the aim of ensuring decent working conditions for staff and better care for patients.

In terms of mobility, the Legislature reaffirmed its commitment to the extension of the Ojos Negros greenway to the Port of Sagunto. The Generalitat is already studying the feasibility of the project, and the provincial corporation has offered its collaboration in its execution.

Declaration for Women's Day and Other Proposals

The session included the approval of an institutional declaration on the occasion of International Women's Day, promoted by the Equality deputy, Natàlia Enguix. All groups supported the text except Vox, which distanced itself from the initiative.

Additionally, the plenary session approved two proposals from the PP for the central government to take responsibility for cleaning the beaches affected by the DANA and maintaining ravines, as well as to request a consensual solution to the mandatory registration of tourist accommodations and vehicle rentals.

Meanwhile, Vox obtained the support of the PP in its demand for direct aid for the Valencian fishing sector, demanding the removal of bureaucratic obstacles in its granting.
