Marta Barrachina Acts on Castellón Province's Water Deficiencies

The president of the Provincial Council has highlighted the actions that arise from the active listening carried out by the Provincial Government.

The president of the provincial institution, Marta Barrachina, along with the vice president and head of the Infrastructure area, Héctor Folgado, and the deputy of the Comprehensive Water Cycle, Iván Sánchez, visited this Thursday the adaptation and conduction of drinking water between the Els Molins spring catchment and the municipal reservoirs to prevent water losses and reduce energy consumption in the municipal drinking water network, a project already completed and which has had a provincial investment of 100,000 euros.

An agreement with Ares del Maestrat with which, as the president, Marta Barrachina, has expressed, “we reinforce our commitment to solve problems, guarantee resources, and equalize opportunities in inland areas.” “Ares del Maestrat, with its 174 inhabitants, deserves infrastructures that ensure the future, and this project is a commitment to the development of small towns, the great heart of our province,” continued the provincial leader, who also added that “this commitment to Ares del Maestrat is part of a global commitment to improve the water infrastructures of the entire province.”

Regarding the work carried out, it aimed to improve the conduits that serve to fill the municipal reservoirs of Sol de la Costa from the spring. This way, the constant water losses that had been occurring will be avoided, and the existing water resources will be better utilized, taking advantage of the maximum flow of the spring for filling the reservoirs. Additionally, since the water from the spring reaches the reservoirs by gravity, it is essential to make the most of every liter of water from it, which has zero energy cost and therefore contributes significantly to reducing the carbon footprint of the municipality.

Thus, thanks to this action, the water will reach the municipal reservoirs without any energy cost. This represents a sustainable alternative to pumping and avoids temporary solutions such as supply with tanks, as had to be done in previous years.

The president of the Legislature has highlighted this action that arises from the active listening carried out by the Provincial Government to address the needs and demands of the 135 municipalities of the province, especially the smallest ones, such as Ares del Maestrat, a town that, due to its small economic capacity, requires the help of the Legislature to face municipal works and investments. “The Legislature reaches where other administrations can't, and the unique agreement signed with Ares del Maestrat is an example of this,” commented Marta Barrachina, who emphasized that this help “is part of the roadmap set to achieve an agile, close, approachable, and, above all, effective institution.” “We will continue working so that development and progress materialize and can be felt in the 135 municipalities of the province and that all citizens, wherever they live, have the same services and opportunities,” added the highest representative of the provincial institution.

Meanwhile, in that commitment to guarantee drinking water in the province, it is worth highlighting that the 2025 budget of the Legislature de Castellón includes a significant investment in water matters budgeted at over 28 million euros, 82.5% more than the previous year. A budget divided into four major axes, with 10.6 million euros for water purification; 1.3 million euros for works to guarantee water supply; 6.5 million euros for the PERTE of water; 1.5 million euros for the AGA line. “All this reflects our firm commitment to guarantee water throughout the province. Because every investment in water infrastructures is an investment in quality of life and the future of our municipalities,” highlighted president Marta Barrachina. “We will continue working so that water, the source of life and development, is never lacking in Castellón,” she concluded.
