Cerimedo Excluded From the Complaint for the Alleged Coup Attempt in Brazil

Brazil's Justice excluded the owner of La Derecha Diario from the case for 'attempted coup d'état'

The exclusion of Fernando Cerimedo from the complaint filed by the Public Ministry of Brazil highlights the political persecution and censorship in the country.

Cerimedo had been investigated for allegedly spreading "false information" about the Brazilian electoral process of 2022. After exposing irregularities in the use of electronic voting machines and denouncing possible manipulation of the results.

Despite attempts to involve him in a baseless judicial process, his exclusion confirms the lack of evidence against him.

A Political Process Marked by Censorship

Since 2022, Cerimedo, a political consultant and partner of La Derecha Diario, was targeted by a judicial offensive promoted by Judge Alexandre de Moraes. His investigation was linked to alleged involvement in the dissemination of news questioning the transparency of the Brazilian electoral system. That same year, the Superior Electoral Court of Brazil ordered the censorship of La Derecha Diario for exposing alleged irregularities in the presidential elections.

Cerimedo presented official data indicating inconsistencies in the vote count. Such as differences in the results of electronic voting machines and atypical voting patterns. However, instead of opening an investigation, the Supreme Electoral Court chose to silence him.

The Exclusion from the Complaint and Its Implications

The fact that Cerimedo was excluded from the complaint exposes Lula's regime's attempts to control the political narrative and silence the opposition.

Brazil Under a Censorship System

  • Alexandre de Moraes has promoted measures to persecute and silence government critics.
  • In 2022, La Derecha Diario's social media accounts were banned for reporting on the elections.
  • The social network X was blocked in Brazil after Elon Musk's refusal to censor opponents.
  • Jair Bolsonaro was banned in a political maneuver to prevent his return to power.

A Key Precedent in the Fight for Press Freedom

The persecution of Cerimedo and other opposition leaders confirms the deterioration of freedoms in Brazil. His exclusion from the complaint reinforces the importance of resisting state censorship and defending the right to inform.

This case reaffirms the concern about the concentration of power in the hands of a judge acting as the executing arm of political repression. Justice, ultimately, could not sustain an accusation built on weak foundations.
