Carlos Mazón Blames the Government for Delays in Sending the Alert SMS During the DANA

The Valencian president defends the management of the DANA and highlights the exemplary coordination of Cecopi.

The President of the Generalitat, Carlos Mazón, has reaffirmed the effectiveness and exemplary coordination of the Integrated Operational Coordination Center (Cecopi) during the management of the DANA on October 29. In his speech after a forum on artificial intelligence and security held in Alicante, Mazón emphasized that decisions were made jointly and collegially, thus ensuring maximum efficiency in an emergency context.

Mazón has highlighted the technical and coordination nature of Cecopi, where representatives from all administrations converge: the General State Administration, the Generalitat Valenciana, Civil Protection, the State security forces and bodies, and specialized emergency technicians. "Decisions were made with the unanimity of all members, showing the strength of our coordination system," he noted.

Amid the ongoing judicial investigation, the President has reiterated the Generalitat's "absolute cooperation" with the justice system, highlighting total transparency in identifying the technical managers. "We are committed to truth and rigor. The legal services are working to respond with clarity and precision," he stated.

Mazón has strongly defended that the Generalitat acted quickly and responsibly. "As soon as the alert about the Forata dam was received, Cecopi reacted swiftly: in just 12 minutes, the warning message was already sent to the population," he highlighted, showing agility in making critical decisions.

Additionally, he emphasized that the lack of prior information from the central government affected reply times, but even so, the Generalitat managed the situation with determination. "We did everything possible with the information we had, and when the final alert arrived, we acted without delay," Mazón stated.

Regarding his personal role during the crisis, Mazón clarified that he was in constant contact with Cecopi and promptly informed of the emergency's evolution. "My priority was always to coordinate and support the technical team on the front line," he explained, thus dispelling any speculation.

Mazón concluded by highlighting that his management focused on protecting the citizens and ensuring maximum efficiency in critical situations. "In the face of adversity, we demonstrated responsiveness, coordination, and commitment to the safety of all Valencians," he affirmed.
