This Is the Brutal Number of Illegal Immigrants Who Have Arrived in Canary Islands in January
The Canary Islands have received 72 boats with nearly 5,000 irregular immigrants
Illegal immigration remains the order of the day. In January 2025, the Canary Islands received 72 boats with nearly 5,000 immigrants in an irregular situation.
This is confirmed by La Gaceta. Considering these data, this month becomes the second January with the highest arrivals of immigrants, only surpassed by 2024. According to a document accessed by the mentioned media, it highlights the severe lack of control in the countries of origin.
Especially on the coasts of Morocco and in the areas of Western Sahara that are under the occupation of the Alawite regime, from where most of the boats originate.

According to the media, 69 of the 72 boats, representing 95.8% of the total, departed from the coasts of Morocco or areas of Western Sahara under Moroccan control. The Civil Guard emphasizes that containment measures in the departure countries were not as effective as expected to reduce the pressure on the islands.
In this regard, the report indicates that Cabo Blanco (La Güera), in occupied Western Sahara, is the main place from where these boats depart.
According to the media, the report highlights that the majority of the nearly 5,000 immigrants who arrived are adult men. More specifically, 88% of the total. Only 7% are women, while 5% are minors, mostly males.

This is assured by the newspaper. This distribution highlights the notable male predominance among the migrants. Moreover, the Civil Guard points out that as long as the pull effect persists, illegal immigration to the Canary Islands will not decrease.
The Brutal Reality of Unjoined Minors in the Balearic Islands
Illegal immigration continues to be a hot topic. In an intervention on the program 4Directe, Guillermo Sánchez, president of the Mallorcan Institute of Social Affairs (IMAS), revealed something shocking. According to La Gaceta, he explained that during January, all illegal immigrants who arrived by boat to the Balearic Islands, identified as unjoined minors, actually turned out to be adults after undergoing the corresponding examinations.
These tests, which were not previously conducted systematically, have allowed for the clarification of the true age of the immigrants. It demonstrated that none of the cases involved a minor. In total, 20 cases have been detected in the first month of this year, according to the mentioned media.
During the interview, the head of IMAS expressed concern about the lack of resources in the reception system. According to the media, he pointed out that they are currently operating at double the recommended capacity. In this context, he showed his support for the stance of Marga Prohens's Government.
He assured that the Balearic Islands will not accept young immigrants from other autonomous communities within the distribution agreed upon by Sánchez's Government with the Canary Islands.
He also recalled that the cost of maintaining each unjoined minor amounts to 239 euros per day. This further increases the pressure on the reception system in the islands.
