Young people from Andalucía and Canarias bring the debates of the Parlament to El Centro Inglés
1st-year high school and intermediate vocational training students from various public education centers
The MEP is organized by the MEP Association at the national level and El Centro Inglés school in its regional session, with sponsorship from Sodexo, Caja Rural, Edelvives, Autocares Rico, and M2A, and collaboration from the City Council of El Puerto de Santa María, the City Council of Jerez, and the Atalaya Museum of Jerez. A total of 19 educational centers participated, 16 from Andalusia and 3 from the Canary Islands.
It is a reference debate at the regional, national, and international levels, where young students work in committees, conduct debates, proposals, amendments, and plenary sessions, and seek consensus on topics of interest, mirroring those that occur in the European Parliament. The goal is to foster in them the awareness of European citizenship and the culture of constructive parliamentary discourse to become true parliamentarians for three days.
Among the topics debated are strategic energy autonomy, challenges for culture and art, the issue of EU agreements with neighboring countries to control migration, and how to ensure free and plural media in the EU. The conclusions of the debates will be submitted to the European Parliament.
The sessions opened on Saturday, the 18th, at the San Miguel Auditorium in El Puerto de Santa María, with the institutional intervention of Isabel Paredes, Territorial Delegate of Education of the Junta de Andalucía. The closing session took place on Monday, January 20th, at the Atalaya Museum of Jerez and featured the intervention of the Mayor of Jerez, María José García-Pelayo, and the Delegate Councilor of Education, José Ángel Aparicio. The MEP Association was represented by Ramón Rodríguez, president of the MEP, and Ágata Tutzó, coordinator of MEP Spain.
The director and head of El Centro Inglés, David Randell, has expressed his "deep satisfaction" for the celebration of this event for the sixth consecutive year. "Young people once again demonstrate their eagerness to participate and contribute to the debates that most interest society and the challenges ahead," he noted.
