This unexpected turn in his life led him to win Mister Spain in 1999 and build a successful television career.

During the 80s and 90s, Mondragón experienced difficult times due to ETA's activity. According to Bekia, Jorge Fernández witnessed a particularly shocking episode when two explosions shook the area where he lived with his family.

However, despite these tough times, his love for his town and its people has never changed. In fact, on more than one occasion, he has mentioned how these years shaped his character.
