Surprise in Spain: a relative of Queen Sofía breaks the silence after the divorce
A member of Queen Sofía of Greece's family has spoken for the first time about their divorce after 14 years of marriage
The surprise has broken out in Spain and in European royalty: a close relative of Queen Sofía has broken her silence after a divorce that shocked the aristocratic circle. It is Tatiana Blatnik, ex-wife of Prince Nikolaos of Greece. For the first time since the separation, Tatiana has spoken out about a crucial chapter that marked a turning point in her personal life.
The announcement of the separation in 2024 already caused a huge media stir, but it was Nikolaos's quick new marriage that shook public opinion even more. Now, Blatnik's voice resonates strongly, filled with emotion, reflection, and admirable dignity. How has she experienced this whole process? What does she really think about her ex-husband's unexpected turn?

The unexpected divorce of Queen Sofía's nephew and his quick wedding to another woman
No one saw it coming. In 2024, Prince Nikolaos of Greece, nephew of Queen Sofía and son of the late Constantine II, confirmed his separation from Tatiana Blatnik after 14 years of marriage. Within weeks, the divorce was finalized.
However, what was most shocking was not the farewell itself, but what came next. Nikolaos fell in love with businesswoman Chrysi Vardinoyannis and, after just seven months of dating, he walked down the aisle again.
The wedding was held on February 7, 2025, at the Church of Saint Nikolaos of Rangava, the oldest temple in Athens. It was an intimate event, but full of symbolism and prominent figures, including Infanta Cristina, Princess Irene, and, of course, Queen Sofía. Many interpreted the ceremony as a sign of support for the prince and his new life.
For Tatiana, it was a hard blow to take. The speed with which events unfolded and the public attention on the wedding only intensified the emotional pain over the end of her story with Nikolaos.
Tatiana Blatnik breaks her silence after her divorce from Queen Sofía's nephew
After months of silence, Tatiana Blatnik has finally taken the step to speak. She did so in her interview with Vanity Fair, in which she broke the unwritten rule of royal silence and expressed herself with calmness.
"Ending a long marriage is never easy, but it's possible to separate with love and dignity if mutual respect is prioritized. We didn't consider anything settled. We evolved toward a new stage," she stated.
These words sum up not only the end of a relationship, but also a vital transition. Tatiana doesn't hide that it was a "painful" stage, but she acknowledges that she keeps positive feelings toward the one who was her partner for more than a decade.
She has reflected a lot on her personal process during this time. "Healing isn't a linear process, but neither is finding a purpose in life. Sometimes you don't see things clearly before you jump, but after," she sums up.
"Being part of the Greek royal family has been a privilege and an honor. I've learned so much: values like love and service to the homeland, family unity and, of course, I got to know Greece. I admire and respect all of them, especially for their strong family unity."
But that wasn't all, as she admitted that she doesn't hold a grudge against the prince: "Being married to Nikolaos has been a privilege, and I'll always have deep respect for him. Our story marked a very important stage of my life. Without him, I wouldn't be living in Greece," she revealed.
Far from running away or distancing herself from the environment she shared with her ex-husband, Tatiana has decided to stay in Greece: "I've felt a deep sense of belonging to what I consider my country. Staying wasn't the easy path, but easy things aren't for me. Starting over somewhere else would've been easier on paper, but not in my heart," she affirms.

Tatiana has rediscovered her inner strength and, as she says, she has relied on an essential pillar: her mother, Blanca Brillembourg. "She understands me better than anyone. She's my greatest support," she added affectionately.
Tatiana Blatnik's testimony has surprised with its honesty, calmness, and depth, shedding light on an intimate process lived in the public eye. The ex-wife of Queen Sofía's nephew has shown that it's possible to close a chapter with dignity and respect, even under media pressure.
