Europa Press Six Hospitals in Madrid Stand Out Among the World's 250 Best
In Spain, Hospital Universitario La Paz leads the national ranking with a score of 91.83%, followed by Hospital Universitario 12 de Octubre with 88.35%.
Six hospitals in Madrid are among the 250 best in the world according to the World Best Hospitals 2025 ranking. This list was published by Newsweek magazine. The ranking is based on the opinion of thousands of medical experts from 30 countries, as well as data on patient experience and hospital quality metrics.
The Hospital Universitario La Paz in Madrid ranks 49th, being the first on the Spanish list. It is followed by the Hospital Universitario 12 de Octubre, which ranks 52nd.
These two hospitals repeat as the best in Spain, although La Paz has fallen three positions compared to last year. In 2024, La Paz ranked 46th in the ranking.
The Hospital General Universitario Gregorio Marañón also stands out, ranking 76th. The Hospital Universitario Ramón y Cajal has dropped from 144th to 163rd. Meanwhile, the Hospital Clínico San Carlos has improved, moving from 183rd to 175th. The Hospital Universitario Fundación Jiménez Díaz has risen from 203rd to 198th.
The Hospital Puerta de Hierro in Majadahonda, which ranked 221st in 2024, has dropped out of the list. Other Spanish hospitals that stand out are the Hospital Clínic de Barcelona in 59th place and the Universitari Vall d'Hebron in 70th place.
The ranking also includes the Hospital Universitario Virgen del Rocío in Seville, in 160th place, and the Hospital Universitari i Politècnic La Fe in Valencia in 169th place. The Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau in Barcelona closes the list in 217th place. These data reflect the quality of medical care in Spain.
The top ten hospitals on the world list are, in order: Mayo Clinic, Cleveland Clinic, Toronto General, Johns Hopkins Hospital, Karolinska University Hospital, Massachusetts General Hospital, Charité, Sheba Medical Center, Singapore General Hospital, and University Hospital Zurich. These hospitals are recognized for their excellence in medical care and clinical outcomes.
The World Best Hospitals 2025 study analyzes more than 2,400 hospitals from 30 countries, including the United States, Spain, Germany, and Canada. The selection of countries was based on various factors such as the standard of living and life expectancy.
The ranking is based on a comprehensive process that includes online surveys of doctors and health professionals. Hospital quality metrics are used and questionnaires are implemented to measure patient experience. Patient-reported outcome measures (PROM) are standardized questionnaires that patients complete to assess their functional well-being.
