Royal House confirms that Princess Leonor will begin her training at the Air Academy on September 1 in Murcia

The Royal Household has revealed the most desired news about Princess Leonor: the date when she will begin the final stage of her military training. The heir to the throne will start her time at the General Air and Space Academy of San Javier on September 1. This will conclude a summer marked by official events, family reunions, and intense military maneuvers.

In recent days, Leonor has been completely focused on fulfilling the last commitments of her training at the Naval School of Marín. Her return home has been marked by brief reunions, new missions, and a schedule that barely gives her a break. How is the princess experiencing this key moment in her life?

The most demanding summer for Princess Leonor before her entry into the Air Academy

After five months of sailing on the training ship Juan Sebastián de Elcano, she returned to Zarzuela for a reunion with her family. There, she met her father, King Felipe, and Infanta Sofía, who had gone the longest without seeing her. Queen Letizia, meanwhile, had already had the chance to embrace her during a stopover in Panama.

However, that reunion was brief, since, a few days later, on June 14, Leonor boarded the frigate Blas de Lezo as a midshipman. There, in the Atlantic waters, she joined the ship's Information and Combat Center, taking part in the Sinkex-25 maneuvers. These maneuvers include exercises with live ammunition, such as torpedoes and missiles, and are an essential part of any future officer's training.

During that stage, Princess Leonor visited Ceuta for the first time, between June 22 and 23, after the ship's stop in the autonomous city. It was a historic stop, since she had never set foot on Ceuta's soil before.

The next stop will be on July 3 in Gijón, rejoining  Juan Sebastián de Elcano to complete the final stretch of her naval training. From there, she will stop in El Ferrol and arrive in Marín on July 13, the final point of her time at the Naval School. This step coincides with the filming of the series Marusía:Vientos de honor, which has allowed people to get to know the environment.

Pedro Cardona Suances, the center's commanding director, and Corvette Captains Eduardo Delgado and Francisco Gil, provided details to Pronto about the demanding military life the princess has led. "Here, a comprehensive training is provided because being a sailor is a way of life, not a job," Delgado explained.

The routine in Marín is relentless: it starts at 6:45 a.m. and ends at 10:30 p.m. Between classes, physical exercises, and naval training, students barely have any leisure time. The use of cell phones is not allowed during the day, not even in the courtyard.

In fact, Delgado commented that in this environment personal bonds also arise: "Our students are not extraterrestrials, they're normal people, and they're free to fall in love with whomever they want." However, he added that "not even as a joke" can they be in another's room or show affection in uniform. "You don't know how much suffering brings people together!" Eduardo confessed with humor.

Before starting her new assignment in San Javier, Leonor will receive several official recognitions. On July 14, the Xunta de Galicia will award her the community's gold medal as the finishing touch to her naval stage. Two days later, on July 16, she will receive her official commissionfrom the Navy at the Naval School of Marín, in a ceremony presided over by King Felipe.

That moment will be especially symbolic, since it marks Leonor's transition to her new phase in military training. After receiving the commission, she will finally be able to enjoy a few weeks of rest with her family. But the schedule is already set: on September 1 she must report to the General Air and Space Academy of San Javier.

The stage in San Javier marks the end of a cycle that began in 2023 in Zaragoza. In Murcia, she will face her training in the air force field, thus completing the comprehensive preparation required of any heir to the throne. This new stage will be just as demanding, with intense days, technical training, and flight practice.

The decision for Princess Leonor to go through all three branches of the military carries symbolic and institutional significance. It represents her commitment to the Armed Forces and to the preparation required to be the future supreme commander of the Army. Every step she takes not only strengthens her institutional profile but also her image before public opinion.
