It's official: royal house confirms that King Felipe VI has just uncovered everything
The husband of Queen Letizia is already aware of a difficult situation that is taking place in our country
The Royal Household has officially confirmed a moment that could mark a turning point in Galicia's industrial future. King Felipe VI has just discovered in person the complicated situation facing the San Cibrao aluminum factory. He did so during his recent visit to the Concello de Burela, where he and Queen Letizia kept an intense institutional agenda.
There, while visiting the port, the fish market, and the fishermen's guild, they received a direct message firsthand. Specifically, José Antonio Zan, president of Alcoa's works council, handed a letter to the monarch. The letter describes the "extremely delicate moment" of the plant and asks him to visit the factory to make the problem visible and seek solutions.

King Felipe VI is now aware of San Cibrao's serious situation
The Royal Household, as usual, documented the visit to Burela through their official channels and social media. In the images, the king and queen can be seen touring the fishing port facilities, greeting residents, and talking with local authorities. During this walk, the king received in person the letter that reveals the drama experienced by the San Cibrao aluminum factory.
The content of the letter leaves no room for doubt. In it, José Antonio Zan, union representative, explains that the sector is going through an accelerated and unstoppable process of deterioration.
He asks for the direct involvement of institutions, but denounces that "the Government and Xunta watch from the sidelines as an industry that everyone calls strategic is destroyed, but nobody defends." For this reason, addressing the father of Leonor, he asks him to go to the plant to provoke real change.
According to Zan himself, the presence of Princess Leonor's father "would already force a major movement to provide a solution to our problem." In other words, King Felipe's visit would put institutional and media focus on a conflict that affects hundreds of families. This conflict has dragged on for years amid broken promises and a lack of real investment.
The husband of Queen Letizia, who has shown himself to be especially approachable during the tour of Burela, is not unfamiliar with Spain's territorial and industrial problems. He has shown his sensitivity to major local crises on other occasions, so he received the information with interest.
The situation at the San Cibrao factory that has reached King Felipe VI
The situation at Alcoa's San Cibrao plant is not new. For more than four years, there have been ongoing labor disputes, threats of closure, layoffs, and indefinite strikes.
The problem affects not only direct employment but also the entire economic fabric of the A Mariña region. That's why King Felipe VI being directly informed of this crisis could provide a boost for its visibility at the national level.
During his visit to Galicia, both he and his wife kept an institutional profile, focused on promoting fishing development, sustainability, and ties to rural areas. However, this encounter with industrial reality changed the course of the day, showing that royal visits remain a loudspeaker for citizens who do not feel heard.
For now, there is no official confirmation from the Royal Household as to whether King Felipe VI will visit the Alcoa plant. What is certain is that the works council has achieved its goal: that the highest representative of the State becomes aware of the seriousness of the problem. He has also received their request for help directly, without intermediaries.
The ball is now in the institutions' court. Both the central government and the Xunta have recognized in the past the strategic importance of the factory, but solutions have not arrived. The king's visit to Burela could mark a turning point, especially if that letter doesn't fall on deaf ears.
