The New Life of Mariano Peña, the Actor From 'aída' Who Is Afraid of Terelu Campos

Mariano Peña's new life amid his striking statement about Terelu Campos's theatrical debut

Mariano Peña, known for his iconic role as Mauricio Colmenero in Aída, has sparked controversy by expressing his opinion on Terelu Campos's foray into theater. In recent statements, the actor has made clear his bewilderment at the trend of hiring media personalities without acting experience. These words have reignited interest in his current life, a less media-focused but equally interesting stage.

The actor hasn't hesitated to describe the situation as a "sin of those who call her." After this, a question has arisen: why does the actor feel so concerned about this trend in acting?

Mariano Peña's Criticism of Terelu Campos's Theatrical Debut

Mariano Peña has been blunt when speaking about Terelu Campos's arrival on the theatrical stage with the play Santa Lola. According to the actor, the TV personality isn't prepared to take on a role in theater. Moreover, he believes that her inclusion responds to a trend he himself considers detrimental to classically trained actors.

"I think it's both good and bad. If she keeps getting called, she's right to get paid, but not everyone is an actor, just like I can't build bridges. The sin isn't hers, the sin is of those who call her," the actor stated to Europa Press.

Peña also recalled that this phenomenon isn't new. "We already had enough with models and beauty queens, anyone can be an actor or actress," he added. The actor asserts that the hiring of TV profiles for theater is a problem that continues to rise, taking away opportunities from professional actors.

Despite his harsh criticism, the actor wanted to clarify that his intention isn't to generate controversy but to show his astonishment at the repercussion his comment has had. "I'm not angry, I'm astonished by the repercussion, but it's just another comment," he explained.

Mariano Peña's New Life After the End of Aída

Mariano Peña is one of the most recognized actors on Spanish television. His role as Mauricio Colmenero in Aída earned him awards such as the Unión de Actores y Actrices and the Ondas, establishing him as a humor reference in Spain.

Mauricio Colmenero was a bar owner with sexist and homophobic attitudes who, despite his controversy, became one of the most memorable characters on Spanish television. In fact, the actor confessed at the time that at first, he was "terrified" to play this role. However, over time he grew fond of the character.

Since the end of Aída in 2014, Mariano Peña has maintained a stable career but away from the massive spotlight. Although his role as Mauricio Colmenero brought him great popularity, the actor has continued exploring other projects in television, theater, and voice acting.

Between 2015 and 2019, he was part of the cast of Allí abajo, where he played Don Benito Benjumea, a character different from his role in Aída. Additionally, in 2018 he participated in Pequeñas coincidencias, a Prime Video series.

Theater has continued to be a pillar in his life, as demonstrated by his constant participation in various plays. Likewise, his role as a voice actor has also been key in his career. Among them, his portrayal of characters like Master Roshi in Dragon Ball or Mr. Wilson in Dennis the Menace stands out.

Despite his professional success, his personal life remains in the background. Mariano Peña has always been reserved in this aspect, avoiding the media exposure that accompanies many of his professional peers.

Mariano Peña, the actor who brought Mauricio Colmenero to life in Aída, has made headlines again for his strong statements about Terelu Campos's theatrical debut. His criticism of "intrusion" in the acting world has reignited the debate on the professionalization of the sector. Meanwhile, his career remains active, proving that his talent goes beyond a single character.
