Confirmed: Movistar and Vodafone no longer hide and confirm what was evident

Both companies are working on a joint project and now must decide the name of the third investor.

Movistar and Vodafone have taken a decisive step in the development of their joint fiber optic project. Both companies have been working on this initiative together, and it is now a fact that it is in an advanced stage.

According to Expansión, the two companies have received four non-binding offers from investor groups interested in participating in this project. Through a bidding process, the companies will decide which of these groups will become part of the fiber optic company. The estimated investment ranges between 800 and 1,000 million euros (approximately 880 million and 1.1 billion dollars).

The investors who have shown interest in this company are well-known groups. Among them are Pontegadea, owned by Amancio Ortega; Axa, Vauban, and Antin.

Now, both Movistar and Vodafone must analyze these offers and choose the group that best fits their interests. The result of this selection will be key to determining the structure of the future fiber optic company. Without a doubt, it could transform the telecommunications landscape in Spain.

What will change in Movistar and Vodafone?

Currently, Movistar maintains majority control of the fiber company, with a 63% stake. Meanwhile, Vodafone holds the remaining 37%. However, the entry of a third partner will change this balance.

Vodafone's stake is expected to be reduced to 10%, while the new investor could take on 40% of the company. The rest of the stake would remain in the hands of Movistar, which would continue to be the majority shareholder.

The final decision on which investor group will join these two companies will be made in the coming months. The official announcement is expected to be released between spring and summer of this year.

With the arrival of a new partner, the expansion capacity of the fiber optic network in Spain will be strengthened. This is a key sector for the future of telecommunications in the country. Competition in the fiber optic market is increasingly intense, and this alliance between Movistar and Vodafone could consolidate as one of the main forces in the sector.

This initiative is progressing steadily

The joint project between Movistar and Vodafone for the creation of a fiber optic company, fiberco, is advancing at a good pace. With the entry of a new investor, this initiative is expected to receive a significant boost. The four offers that both companies have received are a sign of the confidence that major investment groups have in the sector.

Now, with a bidding process underway, everything points to the new investor being known around the summer.
