Mary of Denmark, Affected: A Drug Scandal Implicates Frederik
An unexpected scandal shakes the Danish royal family, generating concern and questions about their future
The image of the Danish monarchy has been, for years, one of the most respected and admired in Europe. Frederik and Mary have managed to maintain a modern, approachable, and firm figure. However, they are not exempt from their immediate surroundings potentially putting them in an uncomfortable position.
Life inside Amalienborg Palace is usually surrounded by protocol, discretion, and tradition. Nevertheless, recent information has uncovered a very different environment than expected. The dissemination of certain content has cast doubt on the stability surrounding the institution.

Mary of Denmark: The Information That Changes Everything
The Danish channel TV2 aired the documentary "The Drugged Bodyguard," which reveals concerning behaviors within the Royal Guard. "Behind the iconic uniforms of the lifeguards lies a youth culture that has spiraled out of control," reports the Dana Press. Additionally, it warns that "parties, alcohol, and euphoric drugs are a dangerous cocktail when combined with loaded weapons."
One of the most serious moments is shown in a video, where a guard inhales cocaine with a saber in the barracks facilities. The Danish portal Se og Hor claims that the individual is "out of control" and highlights the severity of the case. These images have caused outrage and concern for the safety within the body that protects the royal family.

A Problem That Is Not New
In June 2020, three guards allegedly started their shift under the influence of cocaine. After conducting tests, they received a fine of 3,500 Danish kroner, about 470 euros per person. Although it went unnoticed at the time, today it reinforces the suspicion that the problem is structural.
The documentary also includes testimonies from two former members of the Royal Guard, who break their silence. One of them suggests more rigorous controls: "They should conduct regular blood drug tests." The other recalls that period with mixed emotions and acknowledges the difficulties of the young military environment.

For now, the Royal House has not issued any official statement. The reaction of Frederik and Mary is highly desired, especially since the king was part of that body in 1986. Although they have no direct responsibility, the historical relationship between the crown and the Royal Guard makes this issue affect them.
Queen Mary, committed to the values of exemplarity, is the one who may be most emotionally affected. In the short term, the Royal House of Denmark must give clear signs of control and transparency to reinforce public trust.
