Kategora Begins Construction of Its New 'urban' Project in Alicante That Will Open
The complex, located on Avenida Doctor Gadea, will have a total built area of more than 9,000 m² and 136 accommodation units.
Located on the iconic Avenida Doctor Gadea in Alicante, the new complex developed by Kategora Real Estate will preserve and honor the architectural legacy of the previous building by maintaining key elements of its original design. With an investment of €37M and its opening scheduled for 2027, the project will be the first of the 'Urban' line in the Valencian Community. A lodging model that stands out for its high-design finishes, modern equipment, and common areas of great added value.
This new building, which will have a total constructed area of more than 96,875 sq. ft. (9,000 m²) and 136 accommodation units, pays homage to the original architectural elements. Its design, led by the architecture firm AIC EQUIP and the interior design studio Made Studio, is inspired by the Alicante of the 1970s. A time when the city positioned itself as a European tourist destination, standing out for its dynamism and Mediterranean traditions.
The conservation and recovery of original architectural elements is one of the pillars of this project. Its facade will maintain the iconic railings of the balconies of the previous building, components that evoke the elegance of traditional architecture. Inside, pieces of great historical value have been rescued, such as the hydraulic pavement that adorned the old homes, known for its unique designs and artisanal value. Additionally, among other sculptural pieces, a marble pedestal and a carpentry front that belonged to the original building's concierge have been included. "These pieces, which will be integrated into the new common areas, will allow guests to connect with Alicante's cultural richness from the moment they arrive," highlights Lourdes Soriano, Technical Director of Levante.
The building's design is intended to be a space that balances urban life with tranquility. The common areas on the ground floor of the complex, including a restaurant and a café, will be equipped with vegetation and functional furniture. Additionally, the complex will feature an outdoor garden of 2,153 sq. ft. (200 m²) on the ground floor and a double-height lounge that will visually connect the ground and first floors, while the studios and one-bedroom apartments, distributed on the upper levels, will offer a total accommodation capacity of 300 places.
The project's details reinforce its connection with the Mediterranean environment and local tradition, such as the large mosaic carpet that will preside over the lobby, reminiscent of Alicante's Explanada Promenade, or the terraces that will allow enjoyment of the climate and views. The development of this complex is made possible by the joint work of partners such as AIC EQUIP – architecture –, Made Studio – interior design –, INARQ – installation engineering – and Mecanismo Ingenieria, responsible for the design and calculation of the structures.
The new Kategora Real Estate complex will open its doors on Avenida Doctor Gadea in 2027 and will be operated by its hotel brand, Kora Living, under the 'Urban' line. This will be a meeting point between tradition and modernity, a space that combines the historical identity of the neighborhood with a hospitality concept designed for current needs, with short, medium, or long-term stays.
