Goodbye to your money: urgent notice to everyone with a BBVA account

Catalan police have warned about a new scam impersonating BBVA

A few days ago, the Mossos d'Eteamra, the Catalan police, alerted all BBVA users about a new fraud attempt. Through their account on X, the police shared a screenshot of a suspicious message pretending to be an official communication from BBVA bank.

The fraudulent message warns that, starting from a certain date, users will not be able to use their cards and must update "the new security system" by clicking on a link. These types of tactics are common in scams aimed at obtaining confidential information illicitly.

They warn of a new scam at BBVA

The Mossos d'Eteamra have emphasized the importance of not falling for these types of deceptions. In their tweet, the police recommend that users, if they receive an SMS asking them to follow a link to update or activate a service, not to do so. Instead, they advise visiting the bank's official page directly or using the BBVA mobile app for any necessary management.

"If you receive an SMS asking you to follow a link to update or activate a service, don't do it. Go directly to the bank's page or do it through their app," indicated the Mossos d'Eteamra. These types of frauds aim to deceive customers into providing their personal and financial data, which facilitates scammers' access to their accounts.

How to identify and avoid bank fraud

It is essential that users are always alert to signs of possible scams. BBVA, like other banking entities, never requests confidential information through SMS or emails. Any official communication from the bank is carried out through secure and verified channels.

To protect yourself from these frauds, it is recommended to verify the source of the message. Before clicking on any link, make sure it comes from an official source. Banks usually use verified email addresses and phone numbers.

Never share passwords, PINs, or details of your bank accounts through unsolicited messages. If you have doubts about a received communication, contact BBVA directly through their official website or mobile app.

It is also important to update the security of your devices. Keep your devices protected with antivirus software and ensure that banking applications are updated.

The importance of cybersecurity in banking entities

In an increasingly digital world, cybersecurity has become a priority for banking entities. BBVA, as one of the main banks in Spain, implements various security measures to protect its customers' information.

These scams are not exclusive to BBVA, but can target customers of any banking entity. Therefore, it is crucial to stay informed about the tactics used by scammers and adopt safe practices in all financial interactions.
