Morton adds: "The royal couple suspected that the entire institution was conspiring against them. In their eyes, the evidence was all around them. The tacit code was simple: the future of the monarchy was secured, with or without Meghan and Harry," Morton explained.

This photograph was published on January 3, 2020, and just five days later, Harry and Meghan formally announced their withdrawal from the royal family. For them, this image symbolized the confirmation of their exclusion and the end of their prominence within the Crown. It was a forceful message that accelerated a long-considered decision.

New life away from the Crown

Despite the controversies and legal battles, Harry and Meghan try to keep a life away from the media noise surrounding them in the United Kingdom. They celebrated their seventh wedding anniversary with an emotional post on social media. Meghan described their union as "our love story."

The biographer also pointed out that long before, they were already thinking about changing course. In 2018, during an interview with Oprah Winfrey, Harry made it clear that they were seeking a different path and a life outside the strict royal gaze. This intention grew until it materialized in the definitive separation.
