Hacienda's Stern Warning About the Income Tax Return: 'No need...'
For various reasons, thousands of pensioners won't be required to file the 2025 Income Tax Return
The Tax Agency has issued an important notice for millions of pensioners in Spain regarding the 2025 Income Tax Return. According to the new regulations, many pensioners will be exempt from filing the return, which represents a significant simplification in their tax obligations.
Tax Agency notice: pensioners exempt from filing the 2025 Income Tax Return
Tax Agency has established that pensioners receiving pensions whose total income doesn't exceed 22,000 euros (24,251 dollars) annually are exempt from filing the Income Tax Return. This threshold remains the same as in previous years. This means that those with incomes below this amount will not have to complete the process.

If the income comes from two or more payers, the limit for filing the Return is set at 15,876 euros (17,678 dollars) in 2025. But only if the income from the second payer exceeds 1,500 euros (1,670 dollars). Additionally, those receiving pensions for absolute permanent disability, severe disability, orphanhood, derived from acts of terrorism, and in favor of relatives will also not file it.
Key dates for those who must file the Income Tax Return
For those who are required to file the return, the 2025 Income Tax campaign will begin on April 2, 2025, and end on June 30, 2025. During this period, taxpayers can file their return through the following channels:
- Online: From April 2 to June 30, the return can be filed through Renta Web or the Tax Agency's mobile application. It will be done using an electronic ID, electronic certificate, Cl@ve PIN, or reference number.

- Telephone Assistance: Between May 6 and June 30, taxpayers can request an appointment for telephone assistance in preparing their return. The appointment request will be available from April 29 to June 27.
- In-Person Assistance: From June 2 to June 30, an appointment can be requested for in-person assistance at the Tax Agency offices. The appointment request will be available from May 29 to June 27.
It is important to note that, to direct debit the payment of the return, the deadline will be June 25, 2025. Therefore, it is recommended to file the return in advance to avoid setbacks.
