buildingSMART's BIM 2024 Report Highlights Advances and Challenges in Construction
The recent 'BIM Situation Report in Spain 2024' reveals that although the adoption of the BIM methodology has grown in the last decade
The 'BIM Situation Report in Spain 2024', published by buildingSMART Spain, offers a detailed view of the evolution of the Building Information Modeling (BIM) methodology in the country over the last ten years. According to the CIBIM observatory, almost 12% of public tenders with BIM requirements have been reached, and a survey conducted among industry professionals indicates that 32% of organizations have already implemented BIM in their processes.
Despite these advances, the report points out that the lack of qualified personnel is one of the main challenges for the widespread adoption of BIM in Spain. This deficit of specialized training limits companies' ability to fully leverage the advantages offered by this methodology, such as improved project efficiency and cost reduction.
In reply to this need, various educational institutions and training centers authorized by buildingSMART are intensifying their efforts to offer specialized BIM programs. For example, butic, a university collaborating center, has launched a scholarship program on the occasion of its fifth anniversary, offering grants of up to 8,000 euros (80% scholarship) in its BIM and 3D Visualization master's programs. This initiative seeks to democratize access to high-quality training and help alleviate the shortage of qualified professionals in the sector.
The report also highlights regional disparities in the adoption of BIM, with Catalonia leading the implementation of this methodology. Additionally, other challenges are identified, such as the costs associated with adopting BIM and the need for standardization in processes. Despite these obstacles, the future of BIM in Spain is promising, with a growing trend toward its integration into construction projects and greater awareness of its benefits in terms of sustainability and efficiency.
