Alerts for Heavy Rain and Storms: Andalucía, Catalonia and Valencia at Risk

AEMET has recommended taking extreme precautions in areas with weather alerts, as precipitation is expected to move to the north of Spain next week.

Spain Faces Unstable Weather This Monday Due to Passing Cold Fronts and Heavy Rain. AEMET has activated red and orange alerts in several regions.

Andalusia has activated the red alert for heavy rain in Ronda, Málaga. Up to 120 liters of rain per square meter (32 gallons per square yard) are expected in the next 12 hours.

The State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) Warns That the Red Alert Level Mainly Affects the Ronda Region. Rainfall of up to 120 mm (4.7 in) is expected.

This red alert level also extends to other areas of Málaga due to stationary showers that could cause flooding. The situation is dangerous.

In Catalonia and the Valencian Community, AEMET Maintains the Orange Level. Heavy rain of up to 100 mm (3.9 in) is expected in 12 hours. The situation is also very serious.

In addition to the red alert in Málaga, the orange level has been activated in several areas of the Valencian Community and Catalonia, where the rain will be very heavy.

Despite the intensity of the rain in some areas, the rest of Spain faces complicated weather conditions. Extremadura and Castilla y León also have yellow alerts.

The unstable weather is due to the arrival of cold polar air. This has caused storms, hail, and heavy rainfall in various parts of the country, especially in the Mediterranean.

AEMET predicts that rain and storms will continue throughout the week. The heaviest rainfall is expected in the Mediterranean and southern Spain.

The Forecast for This Week Includes a Drop in Temperatures and Snowfall in Mountain Areas, Such as the Central System and the Cantabrian Range.

The municipality of Lorca, in Murcia, has already deployed a special device to repair the damage caused by the weekend's rain. Overflows have occurred.

In Lorca, the rain left a tragic toll. One person died and various areas, such as the Albujón ravine, face the risk of overflow.

The damage to infrastructure in Lorca and other nearby areas has been significant. The situation remains critical in the municipality and others in the region.

The rain continues to affect roads in areas like Mazarrón, Águilas, and Lorca, where local road closures have hindered mobility. Some of them remain closed.

AEMET's Forecast

AEMET's forecast indicates that rain and storms will persist on the peninsula until Thursday. Improvement is expected for the weekend, although risks remain.

Precipitation is expected to move to northern Spain as the week progresses. Rain is also expected in the Gulf of Cádiz and the Iberian System.

The east and northeast component wind, which brings moisture from the Mediterranean, will continue to fuel the rain. This phenomenon has been key to the precipitation.

In addition to the alerts on the peninsula, the Canary Islands are also affected. AEMET has issued warnings for the archipelago due to heavy showers and isolated storms.

The rain will also affect the Canary Islands throughout the week. Although Lanzarote and Fuerteventura have a lower probability of rain, storms could arrive in the coming days.
