Walmart or Sam's Club? Where to Buy Cheap Milk, Water, or Eggs in the United States

As food prices keep rising, many families are looking for ways to save on their shopping. In 2023, an average household in the United States spent more than $6,000 a year on groceries. Memberships to stores like Sam's Club and Walmart+ promise lower prices.

Are they really worth it? The Takeout compared the prices of basic products like eggs, milk, and water in both options. This was their conclusion.

Eggs: Sam's Club Is the Cheapest Option

Egg prices have risen considerably, but Sam's Club remains the most economical option. You can buy two dozen Member's Mark Cage Free Grade A Large White Eggs for $9.34, which equals 38 cents per egg. At Walmart+, the Great Value Cage Free Large White Eggs cost $4.97 per dozen, that is, 41 cents per egg.

If you prefer organic eggs, Sam's Club also has the best deal. Their Member's Mark Organic Cage Free Grade A Large Brown Eggs are sold at $9.47 for two dozen, that is, 39 cents per egg. Meanwhile, at Walmart+, the Marketside Organic Cage-Free cost $5.54 per dozen (46 cents per egg).

Milk: Sam's Club Has the Lowest Prices

Regarding milk, Sam's Club also offers better prices. A gallon of Member's Mark 2% Milk costs $3.12, while at Walmart+ you'll have to pay $3.47 for the same gallon of Great Value.

If you're looking for organic options, Sam's Club is more economical. They sell 1.5 gallons of Horizon 2% Reduced Fat Milk for $13.22, which equals 7 cents per ounce. At Walmart+, the same product costs $5.67 per half-gallon, that is, 9 cents per ounce.

Sam's Club also has better prices on alternative milks. A pack of three half-gallon cartons of Silk Almond Milk costs $7.88, while at Walmart+ a single carton costs $3.37.

Water: Sam's Club Is the Best Option

If you buy bottled water, Sam's Club is cheaper. A pack of 40 Member's Mark Purified Water bottles costs $3.98. At Walmart+, the same pack costs $5.47.

If you prefer branded water, like Ice Mountain, Sam's Club sells a pack of 40 bottles for $6.48. At Walmart+ the same pack costs $6.48, but it only has 35 bottles.

This saving is important if you buy large quantities of water for your home.

Is the Membership Worth It?

Both Sam's Club and Walmart+ offer advantages, but Sam's Club stands out for its low prices on essential products. If you buy in large quantities, Sam's Club is the most economical option. This is especially useful for large families or people who need to stock up on products often.

On the other hand, Walmart+ is ideal if you prefer the convenience of online shopping. They offer benefits like home delivery and in-store pickup at no additional cost. If you shop online frequently, Walmart+ may be more convenient. However, their prices on products like eggs and milk are not as competitive as those of Sam's Club.
