Alarms Go Off at Costco and Sam's Club: This New Supermarket Triumphs in America
Costco and Sam's Club Face a New Threat in the United States That Could Transform the Retail Sector
Costco and Sam's Club are used to leading the market. However, a new chain threatens to change the rules of the game in the United States. Consumers, increasingly demanding, are looking for different proposals that go beyond the traditional.
This time, the competition comes from the north. T&T Supermarket, a supermarket that is successful in Canada, has decided to cross the border with an ambitious venture. Its arrival puts the major chains that have so far dominated without opposition on alert.

T&T Supermarket Lands in the United States
The T&T Supermarket chain, the largest Asian supermarket in Canada, has announced its first store in the United States. It will open in the fall of 2025 in San Jose, California, within the Westgate shopping center, in a former Walmart location. The establishment will have 55,000 sq. ft. (5,109 square meters) and will offer a different experience from the rest.
T&T already has two other openings planned in Bellevue and Lynnwood, both in the state of Washington. In Canada, it has more than 33 stores and is recognized for its authentic Asian product offerings, according to Chain Store Age. In addition to food, customers find a seafood section with live seafood tanks, a butcher shop, and freshly made food.
The new supermarket in California will include a barbecue station, noodle section, dim sum, street food, Chinese crepes, and its own bakery. The idea is not just to sell but to create a destination to discover and enjoy. According to its CEO, Tina Lee, the mission is to turn shopping into an attractive and different experience.

A Proposal That Sparks Interest
T&T seeks to change the way people interact with supermarkets. Its model is based on offering culture, flavor, and tradition in one space. It is not just a store; it is a gastronomic meeting place.
The project in San Jose is backed by Federal Realty, the company responsible for also developing Santana Row, a popular leisure area. Its regional president, Jeff Kreshek, discovered T&T in Canada and was impressed by its concept. He assures that integrating it into Westgate will be an important boost for the entire area.

Unlike Costco and Sam's Club, which focus on quantity and savings, T&T focuses on quality and authenticity. Its proposal connects with communities seeking fresh Asian products and those who want to explore new cuisines. If this model works in California, it could expand to many more cities in the country.
T&T doesn't seek to replace the giants but to offer a solid alternative. With its focus on culture and cuisine, it has become a silent threat. Everything indicates that its formula has the potential to change the retail landscape in the United States.
