Shopping enthusiasts will soon be able to enjoy one of the brands that have made history in the country

Nobody can doubt that the economic and financial world in general is on everyone's lips. The latest international events have put the spotlight on the monetary world. Well, in this context, more news is now arriving in the United States.

After a year marked by financial difficulties and the closure of hundreds of stores, the discount chain Big Lots begins its return to the U.S. market today. Backed by the acquisition of 219 stores by Variety Wholesalers, the brand officially reopens. It will do so in nine locations across six states in the country, marking the beginning of a new stage.

The first reopenings are located in Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia. With establishments in cities like Mount Sterling, Metairie, Tupelo, and Roanoke, among others. This initial phase will be followed by a second wave of openings scheduled for May 1, 2025.

Big Lots Will Open Dozens of New Stores

It will be then when another 55 stores will raise their shutters under the company's new format. "We're excited to bring the Big Lots brand back to life, offering more deals than ever," expressed Lisa Seigies, CEO of Variety Wholesalers. The restructuring plan not only includes a progressive reopening but also a complete renewal of the shopping experience.

The new stores will include products ranging from family clothing to electronics, promising a more complete and attractive offer for consumers. Although Seigies acknowledged that the stores "won't be perfect at first," she stated that more products will be added weekly. The collapse of Big Lots represented a hard blow for the U.S. retail sector.

A New Era for Big Lots

Before its crisis, the chain operated more than 1,300 stores across the country. But the massive closure and subsequent sale of assets allowed other retailers to gain ground in the market. Amid this fierce competition, Big Lots' return seeks to offer low prices, recognized brands, and a broader assortment.

Variety Wholesalers is betting on repositioning the brand as a solid alternative against low-cost giants like Dollar Tree. With a continuous expansion strategy, Big Lots aims to reclaim its place in an increasingly competitive retail environment. So if you like the shopping world, you can now catch up.
