AT&T steps on the gas to the amazement of its rivals: it will be hard to match

AT&T has made it clear that it doesn't intend to fall behind in the race to offer the best internet connection in the United States. The company is betting big on expanding its fiber optic network. Undoubtedly, in a move that is catching the attention of the entire industry.

According to statements from the company's top executives, it is undertaking one of the largest fiber infrastructure expansions in its history. Jeff McElfresh, Chief Operating Officer, revealed that the current deployment is equivalent to laying a new fiber connection between New York and Los Angeles every month.

McElfresh also explained that AT&T already sees itself as a large-scale fiber builder. In fact, in 2022 they formed a strategic alliance with BlackRock, which further strengthens their ability to extend their network. The goal is not small: to surpass 50 million homes connected with fiber optic by 2029.

One of the most interesting aspects of their strategy is how they are using Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) technology based on 5G. In areas where fiber is not yet available, AT&T offers FWA as a temporary solution. They do this so that users have quick access to the internet while infrastructure work is completed.

This strategy allows them to connect more people immediately, without having to wait months for fiber installation. McElfresh commented that these efforts involve daily work in more than 10,000 neighborhoods. He also highlighted the commitment of the company's staff, both men and women, who make this large-scale expansion possible.

AT&T moves in the right direction

Additionally, AT&T remains at the center of rumors about possible acquisitions, especially in the fiber field. One of the most recent talks about a possible interest in acquiring Lumen Technologies' consumer fiber business. Although nothing is confirmed, the company has made it clear that it is open to any move that allows it to strengthen its position in the market.

With all this, it is clear that AT&T not only wants to compete but to lead. The combination of a high-capacity fiber network and the smart use of FWA positions it as one of the strongest players in the telecommunications world. The competition knows it, and it won't be easy to keep up with them.
